Abstract

One of the challenges within higher education is to educate experts who can address the wicked problems in society. In recent years, various teaching methods have been developed aiming to support students to develop the skills needed to address these challenges. HAMK Design Factory has approached this challenge from the perspective of multidisciplinary student teams, authentic challenges, and university-industry collaboration. In this article, we introduce the design-based education model (DBE) applied in HAMK Design Factory, in which problem-based learning, project-based learning, and competency-based teaching are integrated in the teaching at HAMK Design Factory.
