Arvoista tekoihin – avoimuus osana opettajan arkea

Abstract

Like many universities today, Laurea University of Applied Science lists openness as a core value in our new strategy, where it is defined as transparency of all activities. However, writing something in a strategy paper and implementing it in practical everyday work are different things. To bring open learning closer to teachers and students, Laurea offers guidance and support services in utilizing and publishing open educational resources under Avoin Kulma -service concept. Laurea also develops an open educational resource library on Canvas, the learning management system, where Creative Commons -licensed course materials are already available for circa 60 most popular courses. To make university learning more accessible, Laurea also develops MOOCs for every degree program available. In this article, we report how we have implemented these initiatives across the university, what kind of challenges we have faced and what kind of benefits they have had both qualitatively and quantitatively.
