Call for Papers – HEROS Journal

HEROS Journal invites the submission of original research articles that investigate aspects of the Romanian language, literature, culture, and civilization. The journal is committed to fostering interdisciplinary dialogue by examining the intersections between philological studies, the arts, humanities, and social sciences.

We welcome contributions for both thematic and non-thematic issues from scholars across the globe who engage with Romanian culture and civilization in national, comparative, or global contexts. The editorial board also invites proposals for special issues, offering scholars the opportunity to act as guest editors for thematic editions.

HEROS Journal encourages submissions that present innovative perspectives on Romania, spanning a broad range of disciplines including (but not limited to) linguistics, literary studies, visual and performing arts, film and media studies, history, philosophy, and political science.

Authors are invited to explore these themes within the framework of Romanian studies, while also considering connections to other linguistic and cultural spaces. Topics of interest may include:

  • Identity, alterity, and their construction
  • Centre, periphery, marginality, and regional dynamics
  • Freedom, censorship, and totalitarian regimes
  • Exile, diaspora, nationality, and transnational perspectives
  • Integration, resilience, individuality, and collectivity
  • Gender, ethnicity, religion, and spirituality
  • Utopia, dystopia, and representations of the “Other”
  • Popular culture, education, and emerging media
  • Artificial intelligence and the imagination of new worlds in Romanian literature and cinema
  • Historical and comparative linguistics
  • Sociolinguistics and language contact phenomena
  • Dialectology and regional linguistic variation
  • Language policy and planning in Romania and the Republic of Moldova
  • Language acquisition and bilingualism
  • Discourse analysis, pragmatics, and stylistics
