The national policy paper for the advancement of open science, Declaration for Open Science and Research for 2020–2025, was approved in December 2019 and published in January 2020. The declaration serves as a basis for defining the direction in which open science is being pursued in the Finnish research community. The declaration defines strategic goals for research culture as well as for publications, data, methods and educational resources. For publications, openness will be the default option in the near future, for research data the principle is "as open as possible, as closed as necessary". Key organisations from Finnish research community have been involved in drafting the declaration. (Juuso Ala-Kyyny)
